How to create and activate your first campaign

This guide walks you through creating your first popup campaign, from selecting a template to going live on your store.

Step 1: Start a new campaign

  1. Go to the Campaigns page in the 1ClickPopup app
  2. Click Create campaign in the top right corner

Step 2: Choose a campaign type and template

On the Select template page, you'll see a list of campaign types on the left:

  • Opt-in popup - the most common type, captures emails via a popup overlay
  • Opt-in embedded - an inline form placed directly on your page
  • Announcement popup - displays a message with a CTA button (no form fields)
  • Exit & cart saver popup - triggers when a visitor is about to leave
  • Gamified popup - Spin-to-Win, Turntable, or Nine-Square interactive widgets

Select a campaign type, then click a template that fits your goal. Each template is a starting point — you can fully customize the design, text, and fields after selecting it.

Step 3: Name your campaign

After selecting a template, you'll be asked to name your campaign. This name is internal only - your visitors won't see it. It helps you identify the campaign on your Campaigns page.

If you leave the name blank, the template name will be used (e.g., "Email capture"). You can rename it anytime from the Actions menu on the Campaigns page.

Click Create campaign to open the editor.

Step 4: Customize your campaign

The campaign editor has three tabs:

  • Settings – display rules, targeting, triggers, integrations, opt-in method, spam protection
  • Content – text, form fields, success screen, teaser button, reminder bar
  • Styles – colors, fonts, images, display size, overlay, close button

At a minimum, review the Content tab to update the heading, description, and form fields. The template comes with sensible defaults, but you'll want your own text and branding.

Use the preview toggle at the top of the preview panel to switch between desktop and mobile views as you edit.

Step 5: Activate your campaign

When you're happy with the design:

  1. Go back to the Campaigns page
  2. Find your campaign and toggle the status to Active

Your campaign is now live and will start showing to visitors based on your display rules.

Things to know

The app embed must be active. If you haven't activated it yet, see How to activate the app embed in your Shopify theme.

You can preview before going live. On the Campaigns page, click Actions → Preview on online store to see exactly how the campaign will appear to visitors.

Campaigns start in Paused status. New campaigns won't show to visitors until you explicitly toggle them to Active.

Next step

Preview your campaign on your store to make sure it looks right - see How to preview your campaign on your online store.
