How subscribers sync to Shopify Customers automatically
Every subscriber captured by 1ClickPopup is automatically synced to your Shopify Customers list. This works on all plans, including the Always Free plan – no setup needed.
What gets synced
When a visitor signs up through your popup, 1ClickPopup creates or updates a customer record in Shopify Customers with:
- Email address
- Phone number (if collected)
- First and last name (if collected)
- Any custom field values you've added to the form
If the visitor already exists in Shopify Customers, their record is updated rather than duplicated.
Marketing consent is recorded based on the consent options you've enabled in the popup. If email or SMS consent is collected, the customer is marked as subscribed in Shopify with the appropriate consent state.
Where to find your subscribers
The fastest way to view subscribers from a specific campaign:
- Go to the Campaigns page
- Open the Actions menu next to your campaign
- Select View subscribers
This opens the Subscribers page inside 1ClickPopup, pre-filtered to that campaign. From there you can search, filter by signup date, view subscriber details, or export to CSV.
To see subscribers from all campaigns, open the Subscribers page directly from the main navigation.
Subscriber tagging in Shopify
By default, 1ClickPopup adds a 1clickpopup tag to every subscriber synced to Shopify Customers. This makes it easy to segment popup-captured subscribers in Shopify, Shopify Flow, or downstream tools like Klaviyo and Make.com.
You can also set a custom campaign tag per campaign – useful for adding tags like welcome-discount or summer-popup to subscribers from specific campaigns. Custom campaign tags are configured in the campaign's settings.
Turning off the global tag
If you don't want every subscriber tagged with 1clickpopup – for example, to keep your customer tags clean or to avoid conflicts with your own automation rules – you can turn it off:
- Go to the Settings page
- Find the Customer tagging section
- Toggle off Add a tag to subscribers in Shopify
Per-campaign custom tags still apply when this is off. They're configured per campaign, so you stay in control of which subscribers get tagged and how.
How double opt-in affects sync timing
If you have double opt-in enabled on a campaign, subscribers aren't synced to Shopify Customers until they click the confirmation link in the verification email. Until they confirm, the subscriber is recorded inside 1ClickPopup but doesn't appear in Shopify yet.
With single opt-in (the default), subscribers are synced immediately on form submission.
How this works alongside premium integrations
The Shopify sync runs on every plan and isn't affected by other integrations. If you're on a paid plan and have connected Klaviyo, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, or Postscript, subscribers sync to those platforms in addition to Shopify Customers – not instead of.
Things to know
Shopify Customers shows live subscription status. If a subscriber later unsubscribes through Shopify, Klaviyo, or any email tool connected to your store, that change is reflected in Shopify Customers. The Subscribers page inside 1ClickPopup shows the status at signup, plus any updates we receive – Shopify Customers remains useful for verifying current marketing consent.
Legacy tags are preserved. Subscribers captured before May 2026 may have a per-campaign tag like 1clickpopup-1234 in Shopify. These tags are no longer added to new subscribers, but existing tags are kept so any segments or automations you've built around them continue to work.
Custom field data is stored as Shopify metafields. If you collect custom fields (birthday, radio button answers, etc.), the values are written to customer metafields and can be exposed in Shopify Customers with a small amount of setup. To see all custom field data in one place, use the Subscribers page or export from there.
