My discount code isn't applying at checkout
If a visitor signs up through your popup but the discount code doesn't apply at checkout, work through these checks in order.
1. Check that the discount is active in Shopify
1ClickPopup generates discount codes through Shopify's discount system. If the underlying discount is deactivated or deleted in Shopify, the codes won't work - even if they still appear in your popup.
- Go to Shopify Admin → Discounts
- Find the discount connected to your campaign
- Make sure it shows as Active and hasn't expired
2. Check the expiration settings
If you're using unique discount codes with an expiration window (e.g., "Expires after 24 hours"), the code may have expired by the time the visitor tries to use it.
Open your campaign's discount settings and check the Expiration configuration. If the window is short, consider extending it - visitors don't always purchase immediately after signing up.
3. Check minimum order requirements
If the discount has a minimum purchase amount or minimum quantity of items, the visitor's cart may not meet the threshold. Open your discount settings and check whether a minimum is set.
To test: add enough items to your cart to meet the minimum, then try the code again.
4. Check combination settings
Shopify discounts can be restricted from combining with other discounts. If the visitor already has another discount applied (from a different campaign, a manual code, or an automatic discount), the two may not be combinable.
Open your discount settings and check the Combinations section - make sure it's set to combine with the discount types your store uses (product discounts, order discounts, shipping discounts).
5. Check product or collection restrictions
If your discount is set to apply to specific collections or specific products rather than the entire order, the visitor may not have eligible items in their cart.
Open your discount settings and check the Applies to configuration. To test, add an eligible product to your cart and try the code.
6. Check if "Auto apply discount at checkout" is working
If you have auto-apply enabled, the discount should apply automatically when the visitor reaches checkout. If it's not applying:
- Make sure the visitor completed the signup (the discount is only issued after a successful form submission)
- Try disabling auto-apply and testing the code manually at checkout to confirm the code itself is valid
- If the manual code works but auto-apply doesn't, contact us with your campaign name and we'll investigate
7. The code was already used (unique codes)
If you're generating unique discount codes, each code is one-time use. If the visitor (or you during testing) already used the code, it won't work again.
To test with a fresh code: sign up through your popup using a different email address in an incognito/private browser window. This generates a new unique code.
