How to add email or SMS marketing consent to your popup

If you collect email addresses or phone numbers for marketing purposes, adding a consent checkbox helps you stay compliant with privacy regulations like GDPR and TCPA. 1ClickPopup provides dedicated consent sections with pre-filled default text that you can customize.

  1. Open your campaign and go to the Content tab
  2. Make sure you're on the Opt-in screen
  3. Scroll down past the Form fields section
  4. You'll see two separate sections: Email marketing consent and SMS marketing consent

  • Select Show email consent to add an email consent checkbox to your popup
  • Select Don't show email consent to hide it (default)

When enabled, you can configure:

  • Text – a mini rich text editor with the consent message. Pre-filled with a default: "I agree to receive periodic marketing emails from [BRAND] and I agree to the Privacy Policy [INSERT YOUR LINK]." Edit this to include your actual brand name and a link to your privacy policy.
  • Required – when checked (default), visitors must tick the consent checkbox before submitting the form.

  • Select Show SMS consent to add an SMS consent checkbox to your popup
  • Select Don't show SMS consent to hide it (default)

When enabled, you can configure:

  • Text – pre-filled with TCPA-compliant default text including message frequency, data rates, HELP/STOP instructions, and links to Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Edit the links to point to your actual pages.
  • Required – when checked (default), visitors must tick the consent checkbox before submitting.

How it appears to visitors

When consent is toggled on, the consent checkbox appears in the popup below all form fields and above the submit button. When toggled off, it disappears from the popup entirely.

You can enable both email and SMS consent at the same time if your popup collects both email addresses and phone numbers.

Things to know

Default text is a starting point. The pre-filled consent text provides a compliant baseline, but you should review it with your legal requirements in mind. Update the brand name, link to your actual Privacy Policy, and link to your Terms of Service.

Required is checked by default. Consent that isn't required isn't meaningful consent collection. Keep it required unless you have a specific reason not to.

Consent fields are separate from form fields. You won't find consent in the "Add field" dropdown – they have their own dedicated sections below the form fields area.

SMS consent text is longer by design. TCPA regulations require specific disclosures about message frequency, data rates, and how to opt out. Don't shorten the SMS consent text without understanding the compliance implications.
